Affordable healthcare policy is one of the most effective and current healthcare policies that affect the health of many middle and low-income citizens. ACA aims to increase insured Americans (Zhao et al., 2020). This implies that the increase of uninsured Americans implies that most people cannot access healthcare, and nurses would have reduced patients in the healthcare system.
ACA was signed into law on 23rd March 2010 by former President Barack Obama. The Act advocated for each American to have health insurance and assisted Americans with the inability to afford the plan (Buettgens et al., 2021). The journey of the ACA law started in 2009 when the speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, and a section of democrats from the House of Representatives revealed their plans to transform the entire healthcare system. The need to increase healthcare accessibility to many Americans was one of the manifestos that president Obama promised Americans (Gutierrez, 2018). The political force behind this policy made it gain significance in the US. Besides, after ratification, its significance was already evident in the healthcare system, implying that it was one of the important decisions that the president made for the healthcare sector.
The policy has three major components: expanding access to insurance, increasing the number of consumer protections, and improving healthcare quality. The increase in the number of insured Americans based on the first component of the policy is a sign of the positive impact that the policy has on healthcare (Gutierrez, 2018). About 20 million US citizens have gained health insurance coverage since the ratification of ACA. Many people can access better healthcare as compared to before, implying that the policy has enhanced healthcare delivery among many people by making healthcare affordable.

Obesity, or having too much body fat, can be a serious health issue. It may cause a variety of other medical problems, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and stroke. Rising obesity rates have resulted in an obesity epidemic both globally and in the United States. Since 1975, the number of obese people has nearly tripled. (2021, National Institute of Health [NIH]). Obesity has been determined to be caused primarily by a poor diet and insufficient exercise. The meal is delicious because many restaurants cook with a lot of oil and butter. Americans may be unaware of the total amount of fat in their favorite restaurants’ cuisine. As a result, we’ve enacted legislation requiring restaurants to publish calories and other nutritional information on their menus (U.S. Food & Drug Administration [FDA], 2020). This educates the general public about the food they consume, allowing Americans to make informed dietary choices.
Select an effective current health policy that focuses on or affects population health. What components of this policy make it effective? Conduct research on its history and the factors that influenced its development.

Obesity rates have nearly tripled since 1975. National Institute of Health [NIH] (2021). Obesity is linked to unhealthy eating habits and a lack of physical activity. Many restaurants use a lot of oil and butter in their cooking, which results in delicious food. Americans, on the other hand, may be unaware of the amount of fat in the foods they consume at their favorite restaurants. As a result, we enacted legislation requiring restaurants to display calorie and nutritional information on their menus (U.S. Food & Drug Administration [FDA], 2020). This informs the public about the food they consume, allowing Americans to make informed dietary decisions.

Hello,
I agree with you that obesity is a major public health issue in the United States, and it is associated with a number of comorbidities such as stroke, heart failure, type 2 diabetes, and a variety of cardiorespiratory conditions (Ward et al., 2019). There has been a strong push for the American people to adopt healthy lifestyles over the years. These include eating less junk food, drinking less alcohol, and smoking less cigarrete. Community health nurses, also known as public health nurses, have played a larger role in improving population health outcomes. The community health nurse’s role encompasses a wide range of practice but is restricted to a specific group of patients within the community, such as students in a school setting. They do help educate members of the community about health promotion measures and the development of policies aimed at improving quality healthcare; however, their responsibilities vary depending on the community’s health needs at the time (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine et al., 2017).

Re: Topic 7 DQ 2
According to Eyler, Et. Al. (2016) by changing public policies we can effectively affect public health. I chose the current policies related to the public health achievement of motor vehicle safety (Eyler, Et. Al, 2016). By looking at the related public strategies to achieve this by requiring safety belts and child safety seats; requiring motorcycle helmets; and programs for decreased drinking and driving (Eyler, Et. Al, 2016).
So, our goal with the public is to make driving, one of the most dangerous things you can do, safer. Let’s start with why an adult should wear a seatbelt. Millions of adults admit to not wearing a seatbelt; in 2016, nearly half of those killed in car accidents were not wearing a seat belt; motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death among Americans aged 1-54; and ejection from a vehicle increases the likelihood of a fatality by 20 times (Kailee Mills Foundation, 2020). Now, let’s look at why we should keep our children in safety seats until they can properly fit a seat belt. Car accidents are the leading cause of death in children in the United States; simply placing a child in a proper safety seat reduces serious and fatal injuries by up to 80%. (Child Passenger Safety, n.d.). When a motorcycle rider decides to wear a helmet, their risk of head injury is reduced by 69% and their risk of death is reduced by 42%. (Kennedy, 2020). In addition, riders who do not wear a helmet are twice as likely to sustain a cervical spine injury (Kennedy, 2020).

Hello,
I do agree with you that motor vehicle safety is an issue of concern and the policy formulation should be tailored towards enhancing a safer environment for drivers and other road users. The congress has been actively involved in enacting bills on vehicle safety legislation together with the department of transportation (DOT). The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) which has been in existence for almost half a century is mandated to carry out regulatory actions especially on passenger cars (Motor Vehicle Safety: Issues for Congress, n.d.). Some of the safety action policies include seat belt warning systems for the back seats of passenger cars and periodic reauthorization of the surface transportation programs under the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. Policies regulating the highway safety are set up by both the state and federal governments (Hughes et al., 2019). The states policies work to regulate drivers and vehicle licensing, build and maintain highways and formulate and enforce traffic rules while the federal government has a responsibility of regulating the motor vehicles designs (Motor Vehicle Safety: Issues for Congress, n.d.).
