One of my childhood dreams was to be among the leading nurse practitioners in the nation. As such, I needed a reputable learning institution that could help me to actualize my dream. To realize my dream, I joined a nursing school and obtained a nursing degree. However, since I wanted to be the best nurse in the country, I formulated the idea of going for further studies. My three years’ experience in the nursing field made me realize the essence of an advanced degree. Therefore, I opted to enroll for Master of Nursing Program to prepare a career as a mental health nurse.

Ideally, I never intended to join a university for merely being a university that can provide quality training in nursing. Rather, I wanted to join a university whose vision and mission statements aligned with mine. Besides, with the increasing advancement in the use technology in the health care system, I felt it was imperative to identify a university that has outstanding record in preparing students to be better placed technologically. Therefore, I had to consider these factors in my pursuit for a university to join. Consequently, I started making inquiries about the university that offers best education in psychiatric mental health.  A colleague then pointed out the Nursing Program at the Walden University.

I particularly settled for Walden because of the flexibility, flexibility, and program requirements. However, the pith of opting to attend Walden University was the mission and vision statements of both the university and the School of Nursing (SON). The University’s mission statement is, “Walden University provides a diverse community of career professionals with the opportunity to transform themselves as scholar-practitioners so that they can effect positive social change” (Walden University – Acalog ACMS™, 2019).  This vision statement is crucial for graduates in the sense that it rejuvenates nurse practitioners to achieve different needs of the surrounding communities. I was fascinated by this mission statement because it proves that Walden University considers the background and experience of every individual to improve the learning of others.  From the time I opted for Walden University, I have no doubt that I made the best decision.
