Conclusion

In summary, academic and professional networks are important for one to achieve his or her goals in the MSN program and practice as a nurse. The academic and professional networks enable MSN students to overcome the challenges in their program. The networks also guide the students in developing their desired knowledge, skills and competencies in practice. Masters students in nursing require the use of different academic strategies and resources for their success in their studies. They also require the effective use of the existing professional resources to acquire the advanced knowledge and skills that they require in their different areas of specialization. MSN students should therefore explore the most effective academic strategies and resources and professional resources that are applicable to their specializations. Consequently, this section of the project examines the academic resources as well as strategies that I will utilize to achieve the success that I desire in my academic and professional development as an advanced practice nurse.

Academic Resource/Strategy 1: Walden University Library

            One of the academic resources that I will use to achieve success in my academics and professional growth is the Walden University Library. The successful undertaking of the MSN program requires students to acquire adept knowledge and skills that relate to their areas of specialization. MSN students also have to understand the use of different sources of evidence into practice. Through their roles, MSN students are expected to lead the implementation of evidence-based practices in their organizations. The Walden University Library is a critical resource that will facilitate the realization of the above objectives. Accordingly, the library provides students with access to diverse sources of information that they can use in improving their understanding of the concepts related to their professional roles.

The library also provides MSN students with access to different online databases where they can obtain the evidence-based information that they require. The use of credible sources of information that are obtained from the online databases informs the understanding of the MSN students on issues such as trends in nursing and evidence-based practices in health. The library also provides MSN students the access to professional support from the librarians. The librarian may provide students with guidance on ways of locating the sources information that they need and determining the credibility of evidence in them (Robinson & Breen, 2020). Therefore, I believe that optimum utilization of academic and professional resources from the Walden University Library will contribute significantly to my academic and professional success.

Academic Resource/Strategy 2: Teamwork

            The second academic strategy that I will use in achieving the desired and academic success in the MSN program is teamwork. The MSN program may be challenging to most of the students due to the intensive academic as well as professional requirements. The successful completion of most of the academic activities requires the utilization of teamwork in the program. Accordingly, MSN students are required to work as a team in undertaking academic activities such as project work and revising for the examinations. Teamwork in academics is important because of a number of reasons. Firstly, teamwork enables collective achievement of the desired academic and professional outcomes by the students. The students work together in identifying their areas of strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities that can be explored to increase understanding and academic performance (Barton et al., 2018). Teamwork also strengthens the understanding of use of different concepts in nursing practice. The diversity in teams brings a mix of perspectives in the manner in which the different concepts in nursing may be utilized in practice (Fischer, 2017). Lastly, teamwork enhances the completion of the assigned tasks in the program. The students can decide to work on assigned project activities in teams, thereby, reducing the workload and enhancing the efficiency in which the team activities are undertaken. Students also have different approaches to learning. For example, some students learn best through group activities and discussions while others learn optimally through practical activities and demonstrations. I learn best by engaging in team activities since they enable me to understand better the meaning and use of different concepts in nursing. Consequently, I believe that the use of teamwork will enhance my academic and professional success in the MSN program.

Academic Resource/Strategy 3: Participating in professional organizations’ activities such as conferences

            The third academic strategy that I will use to achieve my desired academic and professional success is participating in activities of professional organizations such as conferences and presentations in scientific conferences. The participation in the activities of the different professional organizations will expand my understanding of the different aspects of nursing. For example, I will acquire a better understanding of the ways in which evidence-based practice can be implemented for clinical use. I will also acquire knowledge on nursing-related issues such as advocacy and roles of nurses in policy-related issues by participating in the activities of the professional organizations. Participating in the activities of the professional organizations will also enable me to establish professional links with other experts in the nursing field (Schmidt & McArthur, 2018). I will use the knowledge that I acquire from them to develop interventions that I can use to achieve the academic and professional success as an MSN student. My participation in the activities of the professional organizations in nursing will also expose me to senior colleagues in the nursing profession, who can shape my future career prospects in nursing.

Professional Resource/Strategy 1: Engaging in Implementing Change and Continuous Quality Improvement Initiatives

            One of the professional strategies that I will use to achieve the desired academic and professional excellence is participating in the implementation of change initiatives and continuous quality improvement initiatives in my organization. Change is an important element that contributes to performance and excellence in health organizations. Advanced practice nurses lead the implementation of change initiatives and continuous quality improvement interventions in their organizations. The participation of nurses in change initiatives is important because it develops their knowledge and skills in leadership, management, monitoring and evaluation of projects. It also strengthens the understanding of the nurses of issues such as the use of best practices to achieve organizational excellence in service provision (Alvinius, 2017). MSN students must engage in change-related activities in their program. The change-related activities improve the knowledge and skills of the students on the ways in which they can contribute to improvement in service provision and performance in their organizations. Therefore, engaging in implementing change and continuous quality improvement initiatives will provide me the knowledge and skills that are needed in the program, hence, my academic and professional success.

Professional Resource/Strategy 2: Professional Organizations

            The other professional resource that I will utilize to achieve my academic and professional success is professional organizations in nursing. Professional organizations in nursing play an important role in promoting the development of nurses in their areas of specialization. Professional nursing organizations such as the American Association for Nurses provides nurses with essential resources that nurses can use for their professional development. For example, nurses can access learning materials such as journals on the emerging issues in nursing that influence the professional roles of nurses in their practice in the websites of the professional nursing organizations. Professional organizations in nursing also provide nurses the opportunities to advance their knowledge and skills in nursing. They achieve this using interventions such as the provision of continuous training opportunities and organizing for scientific conferences where nurses can interact and share knowledge on ways of improving patient care. I will therefore belong to the different professional organizations to ensure that I remain updated on the emerging issues in nursing and interventions that must be embraced in practice (Alvinius, 2017). I will also use the organizations to advance my personal and professional growth by participating in activities such as nursing conferences. Through the above interventions, I will be able to achieve my desired academic and professional success in the MSN program.

Professional Resource/Strategy 3: Professional Development Trainings and Courses

            The last professional strategy that I will use to achieve my academic and professional success in the MSN program is attending training and educational opportunities for professional development. Advanced practice nurses have the professional obligation of ensuring that they advance their careers to improve the quality of care that they offer to the patients. I will attend training and educational opportunities to acquire new knowledge and skills in nursing for my success in the MSN program. The training programs that I will attend will include those that will contribute to the improvement in my interpersonal relation skills, leadership, time management, and continuous quality improvement. The training in the above areas will provide me with insights into the ways in which quality, safety and efficiency can be achieved in healthcare (Alvinius, 2017). The training will also equip me with the knowledge of effective inter-personal relationships between other healthcare providers, patients and their significant others. The training and educational opportunities will improve my critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Through the above interventions, I believe that I will acquire knowledge and skills that will be essential for my academic and professional success in the MSN program.

Conclusion

            MSN students require the effective use of different academic and professional resources as well as strategies to achieve their desired success in the MSN program. The professional and academic resources alongside strategies differ significantly among students based on their identified areas of learning and professional needs. I will explore the use of academic resources and strategies such as Walden Library, teamwork and participating in the activities of professional organizations to achieve the academic and professional success in the MSN program. I will also utilize professional resources such as professional organizations in nursing, engaging in training and educational opportunities for professional development and engaging in implementing change initiatives in organizations to achieve the desired goals in the MSN program.
