Lance, I agree that is great to have nursing lead research. Non-nursing research does not have the same insight into bedside nursing and needed policies as a nurse researcher. A combined effort is needed to make effective policies and improve patient care. The bedside nurse spends the most time with the patient. This gives them more time to build an emotional connection with the patient. The emotional aspect of nursing care is a vital part of patient satisfaction. Helping the patient cope by explaining their diagnosis or just listening can greatly impact a patient. In a nurse-led study on specialty palliative care for oncology patients with advanced cancer they recognized a need for further research. Even though it did not improve patient outcomes it allowed for further emotional support and benefited patients that did not have access to specialists. (Schenker et al., 2021) It is important to consider the patient that was helped by this study even though it did not improve outcomes.
