My approach to identify and analyze peer-reviewed research is based on critical reading as well as evaluation of articles to identify the best that is in line with my topic. Through intensive reading of materials from different library databases, I was able to classify these publications as either peer-reviewed or not and also identified their relevance for clinical research (Cooper et al., 2018). Notably, peer-reviewed articles are also checked in terms of the quality of the publication by analyzing accuracy and assessing validity of the research. For me to achieve this, I refined my search strategy by selecting relevant topic and ensured that the results in the manuscript were relevant to the present study by selecting the latest publication (Krishnamurthy & Wood, 2018).
I found data search skills and evaluation of types of resources in scholarly journals as two strategies that I would use in finding peer-reviewed articles. The first strategy enhances my ability to retrieve materials from a search database (Lefebvre et al., 2019). It is always a challenge for a majority of students to evaluate relevant materials for their studies but with the data search skills, one can categorize databases that are relevant to their area of research and select keywords to limit their searches. Database resources from an online library contain numerous peer-reviewed journals with special catalogs organized in an alphanumerical order from A to Z (Krishnamurthy & Wood, 2018). It then means that database search can be useful in locating published materials by selecting an alphabetical listing that coincides with the topic of research. The use of online library databases is also easy to navigate as one opts to find relevant information during studies (Tricco et al., 2018). As an MSN student, library databases will be instrumental in providing consistent information in a secure form as they can only be accessed at the Walden University library by students or staff who have valid passwords.

The study revealed that PRP injections yield significant skin rejuvenation, proving to be a highly effective treatment for facial rejuvenation (Everts et al., 2019). I can now confidently suggest PRP injections for those seeking facial rejuvenation.
I searched by subject from the library homepage and picked nursing as the subject type. I then searched for articles using the keywords of platelet-rich plasma and rejuvenation. I filtered the search by limiting it to the last five years and peer-reviewed scholarly journals. Most scholarly journals are peer-reviewed (Walden University, n.d.). Databases most appropriate for a search in nursing include CINAHL, Embase, MEDLINE, Proquest, and PubMed (Walden University, n.d.). CINAHL and MEDLINE have many nursing-related peer-reviewed articles, evidence-based practice reports, case studies, and systematic reviews (Walden University, n.d.). Embase is a robust database for drug and pharmacology information (Walden University, n.d.). I filtered my search further to include all the above databases and Academic Search Complete. I included the Academic Search Complete database because it consists of peer-reviewed journals, conference papers, newspapers, and magazines on various subject matters (Walden University, n.d.).
A difficulty I experienced while searching for the article was that it is not always clear whether a source is primary or secondary. I had to read through some articles to determine if they were primary or secondary sources. A primary source is any material that documents original research, theory, ideas, or experiences (Walden University, 2022). Secondary sources typically review primary sources (Walden University, 2022). I would highly recommend the above databases as they would be helpful to other graduate nursing students or nurse researchers because they are focused on journals in the medical field.

The first step was to identify the peer-reviewed journals that were most relevant to the topic of research. Once a list of relevant journals was determined, I read the abstracts of all the published articles in order to get a sense of the current research landscape. After having a good understanding of the current research, I started digging a little deeper by reading the full-text articles; this was important since it led to the identification of accurate information possible and to determine relevancy in line with the topic. Additionally, accurate key phrases were applied in identifying the most relevant article from Google search. Some of the keywords used include, anxiety, stress management, stress and anxiety.
There are a variety of strategies used to find peer-reviewed research articles. One effective strategy was to search for journal databases that offer full-text access to research articles. Another strategy was to search Google Scholar, which offers a broad range of scholarly literature from a variety of disciplines. Both of these strategies can be usefully supplemented by searching for specific keywords or terms related to the topic of interest. Some of the keywords used include, anxiety, stress management, stress and anxiety.
One great resource that I intend to use for finding peer-reviewed research in future is the website of the National Library of Medicine, which is part of the United States National Institutes of Health (Suarez et al., 2019). As the preceding paper was published in a reputable academic journal, I feel it is appropriate to reference it as it relates to my professional work in the field of mental health. I am particularly interested in the effects of physical activity on depression because some of my patients are poor at taking their medicine. Instead of abandoning them, I’d like to find them some form of assistance.
What I already understood about depression was the first thing I wrote down. I gave some thought to how doing out affects the body as a whole, not just individuals who do it to get in shape or cut calories. I also help some of my patients put things in perspective so they can understand how exercise, as opposed to medications alone, can assist them. Then, I followed the course’s database search instructions. I went to the “Plus with Full Text” section of the Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature and put in “depression,” “exercise,” and “antidepressants,” in that order. The following criteria helped me focus my lookup: Journal article format, English language content, published between January 2015 and January 2020.
Overwhelmingly, my first search returned over a hundred items. Inputting data into the filter’s individual lines has escaped my memory. While I did try searching in other databases, such as EBSCO and Google Scholar, I was unsatisfied with the outcomes. I went again over “How to Evaluate Journals,” one of the week’s required readings. I regrouped and began my investigation once more. Reduced size was the end outcome. After reviewing the literature and contrasting my findings, I settled on the CINAHL database. By comparing the articles’ content and depth, I was able to pick the one that best spoke to me.
After extensive literature review and consideration of the most recent data, I have concluded that regular physical activity, whether combined with antidepressants or taken alone, is beneficial for people with depression. It came as a surprise to me to learn that adding whole-body vibration to the therapy of depressed people improves their condition. This means that even mild physical activity can help these people recover faster and more completely.
CINAHL is an excellent resource that has been invaluable to my study, and I have no doubt that it will prove as beneficial to my peers. It’s comprehensive, covering a broad variety of subjects, and it’s available in languages than English. It’s all-encompassing, with many of options for narrowing down your search, like I did.
In addition to the benefits I listed above, I think CINAHL database is very useful for nursing students since it serves as a starting point for our study.
In pursuit of advancing my nursing degree, I have discovered a strong passion for psychiatric nursing, with a particular emphasis on mental health and well-being of adults and elderly patients. I have been motivated to investigate scholarly publications that provide insights into the most recent research, optimal methods, and evidence-based solutions in the subject. In order to enhance my academic and professional growth, I have made use of the electronic databases provided by the Walden Library to retrieve peer-reviewed papers that are relevant to my field of expertise.
The peer-reviewed publication I have chosen is “Pharmacotherapy in Geriatric Psychiatry: What We Know and What We Need to Know.” It is relevant in my field of practice and particular interest to me. This article explores the significance of pharmacotherapy in the treatment of mental diseases in older people. It is crucial to acknowledge the distinct obstacles associated with the use of psychotropic drugs in this demographic. Further investigation is required to formulate enhanced therapeutic approaches for elderly individuals afflicted with mental disorders such as issues focusing on clinical drugs administered to elderly patients within FDA approved standard dosage and how it affects patients, the elder ones in particular having different levels of side effects and sensitivity to certain medications on different psychotropic drugs.
International Psychogeriatrics focuses on three different psychotropic medications for bipolar disorder patients, treatments for delirium, and patients with dementia. Conducting studies by Renzenbrink and Wand (2022) shows 128 patients tested between the ages of 65-86 years had certain reactions such as seizures, delirium, orthostatic hypotension, and other symptoms of anticholigernic side effects affecting behavior, impaired memory, and reduced cognitive function.
Salzman (2022) also suggested lowest possible effective dosage and drugs of antipsychotic medications to help minimize side effects on elderly patients, and the need to discuss with families and/or guardians of patients the pros and cons of medications with their knowledge and permission.
SDM (Shared Decision Making) is vital in healthcare field, the idea of sharing information within healthcare staff, families and/or guardians, and patient will help address specific issues and provide more accurate and essential care all factors in to achieve a concrete decision in providing treatments to the patients. Statistics in 2023 shows mental illness has become more common due to several environmental factors affecting a person’s mental stability and policy makers need to support more research on psychiatric and pharmacological needs to rehabilitate our elderly patients that helps them restore their mental and physical health.

Among the library’s array of database selections, one particularly noteworthy choice is distinguished by its extensive coverage of nursing literature and its intuitive interface. By employing the sophisticated search function, I successfully narrowed down my search to certain terms, which played a vital role in locating this article among the vast range of resources.
Some databases were less user friendly, but one I feel comfortable using which I also recommend to my colleagues is the ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Data Base. The interface is very easy to use, with basic and advanced research that helped me find the article I needed. This database would be highly valuable for those seeking extensive knowledge on many topics. I highly recommend this database due to its extensive collection of information that my colleagues and I may effectively utilize, this material would be beneficial for my colleagues who are seeking knowledge on various therapy approaches in the field of mental health. One advantageous feature is the ability to narrow down articles based on their publication year, which allows for the study and implementation of more recent material. This database is highly valuable for finding peer-reviewed articles and the latest evidence-based research from around the world.
