Currently, mental health cases are consistently increasing in American and it has become a major health concern. Essentially, mental disorders manifest in different forms and presentations. Mostly, they are characterized by a blend of irregular thoughts, emotions, perceptions, and poor association with others. They may include schizophrenia, depression, dementia, bipolar disorder, and other psychoses. However, despite the adverse effects of mental illnesses, there are effective techniques for preventing and treating mental disorders including better ways of avoiding sufferings caused by mental illnesses. Consequently, one of such strategies of managing mental disorders is one-to-one peer support as highlighted in the present article. Therefore, this article can be recommended to other mental health nurses to inform their practice because it provides in-depth details on how this peer support can be provided alongside treatment for better patient outcomes.

In using the CARP method, the information published is current and depict the present state of affairs. Regarding the authority, the authors are qualified and competent to rely on due to their vast experience in mental health they have gained in clinical practice and through working in different universities. Concerning relevance and reliability, the article is relevant to the topic because it touches on mental health disorders and particularly explores one-on-one peer support as a strategy of supporting patients with mental disorders. The final part of CARP method is purpose. Here, the purpose is to explore peer support in managing mental disorders. The authors clearly state this purpose and concluded that this approach to mental disorders is effective.

Essentially, there are many approaches of identification and analysis of peer-reviewed articles. However, for this case, I would limit my database search to specifically peer-reviewed journals and taking time to examine if the research articles to see they are peer-reviewed. This can be done by searching the Walden University database by typing the exact title of the topic of interest. While analyzing peer-reviewed journals, I would check if crucial factors such as whether the article is written by experts and reviewed by many other experts in mental health field to guarantee quality (Al-Azawei, Serenelli & Lundqvist, 2016). Other vital signs are whether research is scientifically valid and attains logical conclusions. On the other hand, the strategies I will employ to find peer-reviewed articles include using combined search tab to help in searching numerous databases concurrently. Besides, I will also use Walden library database and restrict my search to peer-reviewed articles only.

I intend to use Web of Science in future to find peer reviewed articles. This resource indexes key journals articles, data sets, proceedings from conference, and other important resources touching on different areas such as sciences, arts, social sciences, and humanities.

In conclusion, the area of interest here is psychiatric mental health. Essentially, mental health is consistently increasing in the contemporary society and it has become a major health concern. Therefore, effective prevention and treatment strategies are imperative to manage this menace. The present article is effective because it established that one-on-one peer support offered by qualified peer supporters is effective in enhancing self-efficacy of patients suffering from serious mental disorders within one year.

In the course of study, an MSN nurse engages in research to advance knowledge on various health care topics. Reading peer-reviewed articles is highly recommended, and nurses should understand how to locate relevant articles in libraries and leading health care databases. This section analyzes the research article I selected about a topic of interest for further study. It also explains the summary of the analysis, and the results are shared as detailed below.    NURS 6003 Part 3 Research Analysis SAMPLE

Step 1: Research Analysis

Topic of Interest: Medication errors
Research Article: Include full citation in APA format, as well as link or search details (such as DOI) Gorgich, E. A. C., Barfroshan, S., Ghoreishi, G., & Yaghoobi, M. (2016). Investigating the causes of medication errors and strategies to prevention of them from nurses and nursing student viewpoint. Global journal of health science8(8), 220-227. doi: 10.5539/gjhs.v8n8p220
Professional Practice Use:

One or more professional practice uses of the theories/concepts presented in the article

Gorgich et al. (2016) hypothesize that one of the major ways to enhance safety is to focus on human resources. The general claim is that medication errors can be reduced if nurse managers solve the human resources problem. Always, professional nurses should prioritize patient safety and embrace the principles of the human caring theory. Workshops, in-service education on medication preparation, and electronic medications have been suggested as reliable ways of resolving the human resource problem, reducing medication errors in turn.

Strengths of the Research Limitations of the Research Relevancy to Topic of Interest Notes
It is a descriptive cross-sectional study, implying that its evidence level is high. It does not elaborate the kind of medications that lead as sources of errors. The research shows how patient safety can be enhanced by reducing medication errors Nurses should have high pharmacological knowledge for them to reduce medication errors. Training them on their areas of deficiency through workshops and in-service training is highly recommended.
Uses a considerable number of participants (327 nursing staff and 62 intern nursing students. It is not free from researchers’ biases It shows how issues at the point of care risks public health and increase health care cost. It is a comprehensive article for a nurse wanting to know more about the medication errors and practice outcomes.
It is current, relevant to what happens in today’s practice, and data has been analyzed statistically. It concentrates on a small region in Iran. It shows the role of nurses in the intervention process. Using the article’s findings can help to improve health outcomes.

Part 2: Summary of Analysis NURS 6003 Part 3 Research Analysis SAMPLE

When doing research, the whole process is guided by a general idea. However, it is challenging to get peer-reviewed research on general concepts, hence the need to be specific as much as possible. After coming up with a specific idea [causes and prevention of medication errors], I went further to search for

reputable sources from the library’s health databases. If a student does not have access to a library, search engines such as Google Scholar are highly reliable when locating peer-reviewed research. The last step of the analysis includes checking an article’s authorship. Research articles from professional journals are usually peer-reviewed.

Regarding strategies, a nursing student must have keywords when finding peer-reviewed research. The keyword helps to save time instead of looking for the required research information haphazardly.  The second strategy is filtering information such that a database only produces peer-reviewed resources. Since this option is not available in all databases, an MSN nurse can read the abstract and analyze an article’s structure. Most studies where experiments take place are peer-reviewed. Journals are useful resources for peer-reviewed research. Leading databases such as PubMed and Medline are quality sources of peer-reviewed research too.

NURS 6003 Part 3 Research Analysis SAMPLE

As illustrated above, my topic of interest is medication errors. It is among the critical issues dominating the nursing practice, and exploring peer-reviewed research on the topic will enhance my understanding of the same and related concepts. As also explained, nurses should know how to locate peer-reviewed articles, and this is a skill I will keep advancing. Relying on peer-reviewed research implies that nurses use evidence-based information and data to make deductions on various areas of study.

NURS 6002-Week 3 Discussion

The Peer-reviewed article I selected, titled “Planning and Implementing Telepsychiatry in a Community Mental Health Setting: A Case Study Report” was one that quickly grabbed my attention in considering my interest in telepsychiatry growth and its impact on behavioral health. As a Future PMHNP, being informed of technological changes affecting patient care is crucial.

The database used was found under the Walden University Library database (2019). I was able to find CINAHL, which stands for Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature a database that provided me the research tools needed to find a full-text peer review article on my topic. Initially, I was overwhelmed by the many different options. However, I utilized the Walden library video tool titled “Decide on a Topic” to re-frame my topic of choice, thus creating a more concise topic which led me to the appropriate article. I learned about using keywords when searching for articles to get a more accurate result. Being able to filter my choices to show only peer-reviewed, full-text scholarly articles using CINAHL was beneficial. I recommend this database tool and think it will be useful to my colleagues because it provides many different scholarly articles to choose from and allows advanced search options, which will be useful for finding scholarly resources for writing papers.
