According to Parab & Bhalerao, “statistical tests are mathematical tools for analyzing quantitative data generated in a research study” (2010). There are a number or test that researchers can use which can also become overwhelming and cause confusion for the research, and that can lead to sabotaging and tainting their study. Selecting the statistical test helps the researcher understand what to look for in the study as well as help organize their data. Parab & Bhalerao (2010) stated that “Before selecting a statistical test, a researcher has to simply answer the following six questions, which will lead to correct choice of test:”.

1.     How many independent variables covary (vary in the same time period) with the dependent variable?

2.     At what level of measurement is the independent variable?

3.     What is the level of measurement of the dependent variable?

4.     Are the observations independent or dependent?

5.     Do the comparisons involve populations to populations, a sample to a population, or are two or more

samples compared?

6.     Is the hypothesis being tested comparative or relationship?

Statistical testing is used explain the results of a study. The test that I would use would be the t-test. “A t-test is a type of inferential statistic used to determine if there is a significant difference between the means of two groups, which may be related in certain features” (Investopedia, n.d.). I would used this test because of show the averages of nurses to patient ratios to help determine the correlation between low staffing and high staffing and whether each has a positive or negative effect on patient health outcomes.

Statistical tests can be chosen based on independent factors and other project designs. My project seeks to identify if PPE education increases informal (family) caregiver compliance to PPE usage. I’ve identified at least one confounding variable, which is the effects of PPE usage modeling by staff. Siebert et al. (2018) found staff modeling and teaching was a big part of compliance of visitors. However, there is a test which accounts for differences in participants.

I am choosing a mixed design ANOVA test due to the used of different participants in each group. A mixed design measures “change over time, differences between the groups, interaction of time and group effects”  (Tappen, 2016). This will show the differences between groups (education versus no education) and within the groups themselves.  It can be used to measure the change between before and after the intervention of education. It will help control for the different participants in each intervention group. It could measure the change from several different time points, as desired.

It is important to choose the correct statistical test when conducting research, as research should maintain validity. To correctly perform the statistical analysis of quantitative data, two key points should be considered: One is to identify the type of experimental design correctly, and the other is to check whether data meets the preconditions of the parameter test (Liang & Wang, 2019. If these are not considered, it can cause misuse of data and can possibly conclude false conclusions. I believed that the Paired T- Test would best fit my project proposal. The Paired T-Test tests the difference between two variables with the same population.

For example pre and post test scores. This would allow the comparison of performance before and after the completion of the organizational change implementation. Determining the amount of hands off time during cardiopulmonary resuscitation would be the first variable, while the data obtained for hands off time during CPR with implementation of continuous compressions during defibrillation would be the second variable. Comparing these two variables should produce the conclusion that continuous compressions during hands on defibrillation decreases hands off time during CPR and increase patient outcomes. Ultimately this test would determine the amount of “hands-off” during CPR comparing standard CPR and continuous compressions during defibrillation.

When using the Falls Efficacy Scale to assess a project aimed at preventing falls among the elderly uing combined interventions,an example of a statistical test that can be used in repeated measures to determine if the intervention is effective is the paired t test. The paired t test is suitable in instances where same individuals are measured twice such as before and after an intervention. The same group of elderly people would receive the falls efficacy scale both before and after the combined interventions in this scenario.

The paired t-test can assess whether there is a statistically significant improvement in falls efficacy scores after the intervention by comparing the means of the falls efficacy scores before and after the intervention(Monjezi et al., 2019). Paired t-tests can be more statistically powerful than independent t-tests when comparing the same group of persons before and after an intervention. This is because individual variability is reduced, allowing for a more precise evaluation of the treatment effect. Because they compare each individual’s before and after scores, paired t-tests are better at detecting tiny changes in outcomes. This is especially true in fall prevention initiatives, where even minor changes can have a huge influence on general health and well-being.

The paired t-test will show the statistical significance of the difference in falls efficacy scores before and after the intervention. The information can be used to assess the success of the combined measures in improving fall efficacy in the elderly. The test can also reveal the amount of the change in falls efficacy scores, which can help guide future interventions aimed at preventing falls in the elderly (Khobkhun et al., 2021).Generally, utilizing paired t-tests in a fall prevention project can improve statistical power, lower the risk of confounding variables, better adjust for individual variations, increase sensitivity to changes, and improve result interpretation.

EVELYN healthcare organizations and the government spend significant amount to handle patient falls. Therefore, to avoid the expenditure different strategies can be implemented in healthcare organizations. The Falls Efficacy Scale is a suitable assessment tool for preventing falls. The scale informs on the chances of patient falls (Pitchai et al., 2019). The information is important in preventing these health complications.

The Falls Efficacy Scale deploys statistical knowledge in determining patient falls. Therefore, the assessment tool is accurate and reliable in overcoming falls. The paired t test is suitable in instances where same individuals are measured twice such as before and after an intervention (Phu et al., 2019). Healthcare workers with adequate statistical knowledge benefit from using the falls efficacy scale.  The t-test is important in the falls efficacy scale since the test generate the accurate information on possible falls. Besides, the paired t-test indicates the statistical significance of the difference in falls efficacy scores before and after the intervention.

For my selected research design focusing on the treatment of fever in neurosurgery patients though alternative means including cooling blankets and anti-apyretics, it is best to evaluate the outcomes for the evidence-based proposal with the use of a Chi-square test. This test was selected as my evidence-based proposal design collected quantitative data and a Chi-square test would be best as this statistical test was specifically designed to analyze group variations or differences when the dependent variable is measured at a nominal level in an experiment (McHugh, 2023). The use of a Chi-square test for a research design involving febrile patients would be valuable and efficient as it would help identify explanatory variables of neurosurgery fever seropositivity too (Deksissa & Gebremedhin, 2019). This has been done in other experiments relating to patients with enteric fever presences, so the use of this statistical test is applicable to this research study and situation as well.

The Chi-square test also fits larger sample sizes too and can compare more than two groups or more than two categories of the outcome variable (Parab & Bhalerao, 2020). With such results, the Chi-square test will provide information about the outcomes and data to determine whether two variables are independent of one another. In this case, it would be the variables of existing fever in neurosurgery patients and also the application of cooling blankets alongside the use of anti-apyretics to decrease hyperthermia in neurosurgery patients while seeing the following effects on febrile patients of these techniques. With this data, the Chi-square test can make a final conclusion about the relative dependencies of the variables examined in this evidence-based proposal.

Now that I am older, I have learned to be grateful for the simple things in life. I am grateful for the clean air I breathe. I am grateful to God every day for my life. I am thankful for good health and that my family, pets, friends, and the people who are close to me are healthy and are safe as well. I am grateful for the roof over my head, that I have a job, supportive coworkers, and that I can have at least three complete meals a day. I am thankful that I am able to complete all due written assignments for this class and I am thankful that I have the ability to help people who need my help, and it makes me happy and contented to see how my tiny efforts can have a positive impact on someone’s life.

Research shows that being thankful has numerous benefits for our well-being and overall quality of life. Expressing gratitude can open doors to new relationships and improve relationships (Morin, 2024). It also improves sleep quality and positively impacts self-esteem. When we appreciate what we have, it reinforces our sense of self-worth and confidence. Being grateful can also lead to better physical and psychological health because grateful individuals tend to experience fewer aches and pains and report feeling healthier overall. Research confirms that practicing gratitude effectively increases happiness, reduces depression, and removes toxic emotions such as envy, resentment, frustration, and regret. Grateful individuals also tend to behave in a prosocial manner, even when others are less kind, they are less likely to retaliate against negative feedback and show more sensitivity and empathy toward others. It also fosters kindness and compassion. Being grateful is a mental state that can transform one’s life from opening doors to improving health and happiness (Morin, 2024).
