The issues that I foresee with my proposed project implementation is my current lack of authority in the department and the culture of staff that may not be interested in participating in change. Pitsillidou et al. (2021) found that the biggest barrier/obstacle to using research in practice is the lack of power to change care procedures (83.8%), followed by the view that the results are not applicable to the nurses’ environment (81.5%) and that there are insufficient implementation facilities (78.8%) after sampling questionnaires from 302 nursing staff.  To overcome these barriers, I will need to use a readiness assessment tool.

The TeamSTEPPS readiness assessment tool seems to be the most beneficial for my project. I am focusing on implementing a tool that assesses burnout in nurses working in the intensive care unit. This simplistic tool is perfect because I am focusing on one unit within the organization. When I completed the twelve questions on the tool, I received a score of nine which suggests that it is a good time to implement the process. This tool does state to focus on the questions that received a response of “no”. Those areas come from the sections of readiness to change culture and resources (AHRQ, n.d.). To help with the success of this project, I will need to have leadership support and a plan to share research with the employees.

Ted (2020) suggests using the “5 P’s” to gain buy-in from stakeholders experiencing the potential for organizational change:

• Priority-express the importance of the initiative and how it aligns with the big picture and mission of the organization.
• Pragmatic-explain why this project is the best possible solution and what there is to gain from it.
• Proof of concept-share the most recent research evidence.
• Politics-determine who your supporters are and create an alliance to strengthen your campaign.
• Persistence-determine timing and limitations and negotiate.
