Which weekly objectives do you have prior knowledge of and to what extent?

Some of the weekly goals for NUR-550: Translational Research and Population Health Management, are well within my zone of competence as a student in the subject. If, for example, the goals involve studying the principles of research methodology, I already have that knowledge from my undergraduate studies. I have experience in research technique, data gathering, and analysis. I also have some grasp of health determinants, health promotion approaches, and the influence of social and environmental variables on health outcomes, which is important if the aims belong to population health management (Azzopardi-Muscat et al., 2019).

Which weekly objectives do you have no prior knowledge of?

Even if I am well-versed in some areas, there will be certain weekly objectives about which I am still learning. These may include cutting-edge strategies for managing a community’s health, improved statistical methodologies, or fresh ways of looking at existing research. These objectives motivate me since they provide opportunities for professional development.

What course-related topics would you like to discuss with your instructor and classmates?  What questions or concerns do you have about this course? 

In my meeting with the instructor and fellow students, I would like to voice some concerns and ask some questions regarding the course. First things first: I’m curious as to how other nurses are putting research-based best practices into action. To improve patient outcomes, one must be able to make practical use of scientific discoveries. As a second point, I’d like to have a better understanding of population health intervention strategies that have positively impacted local communities. Last but not least, I have some concerns about potential challenges in applying research methodology to practice and launching community health programs. I hope that by sharing my problems with the teacher and classmates, I might gain insight on how to address them.

Topic 1: I do not have prior knowledge surrounding translational research. I do have some knowledge regarding evidence-based practice but I do not know the difference between the two.

Topic 2:  I do not have any prior knowledge regarding epidemiology in researching population health challenges, biostatistics, or how translational research is applied to global issues.

Topic 3: I have not learned ethical guidelines for conducting translational research or how to translate this research into practice.

Topic 4: I do have some knowledge regarding reliability and validity in research designs but I look forward to discussing more about strategies to maintain the integrity of translational research.

Topic 5: I cannot wait to learn more about this week’s topic. This sounds very practical and I look forward to learning about common barriers for translating research into practice.

Topic 6: I would like to learn more about how to integrate information and communication technologies for clinical preventative intervention. I do not have previous knowledge surrounding these objectives.

Topic 7: I would like to learn more in depth about policy issues and how they affect health equity and advanced nursing practice. I have some prior knowledge regarding California policy issues, but I would like to learn more.

Topic 8: I would like to learn more about how the ARN can advocate for equitable population health services and policies because I do not have background knowledge regarding these objectives.

I am so excited to discuss with my classmates regarding their evidence-based practice project literature reviews. Evidence-based practice literature reviews are so crucial to the innovation of our nursing practices so I look forward to sharpening these skills by learning from others. I don’t have any questions regarding this course. My only concern is finding an adequate health care policy that is designed to provide equitable health care for a diverse population for our very last project. But I have faith that we will be well educated and equipped by our eighth week to complete this task.
