My evidence-based practice would be centered around the utilization of new technologies by bedside nurses. I would do a literature review of peer-reviewed studies to further investigate this issue. Then I would develop a framework and intervention with said technology that could be both quantitatively and qualitatively measured. Both quantitative and qualitative data would be important because it would be necessary to study the numerical data regarding technology use, and it would also be important to know both nurse and patient responses to interventions, which could be gathered through surveys, questionnaires, and interviews. When researching, data would have to be recent, within the last five years, peer-reviewed, with adequate sample sizes.

DeNisco and Barker say it best, “Not all evidence is created equal, and there is a need to use the best available evidence,” (2016, p.465). My topic 5 Discussion Question covered the prevalence of UTI in a healthcare facility, more specifically in the elderly population who are not always able to make their needs known. Qualitative and quantitative research would be vital in decreasing the amount of UTI seen frequently in this population. Qualitative research would dig in to find out why these frequent UTIs occur and set forth interventions to help prevent or decrease the prevalence. The topic I discussed was about the completion of nighttime observation rounds in psychiatric facilities. At night, it is difficult for staff to complete these observation rounds because patients are sleeping and the lights are off, so flashlights must to used to visualize patients. There is a preliminary, qualitative research study that looked at the use of AI to assist nighttime observation rounding in the psychiatric setting (Barrera et al., 2021). The AI is a non-invasive sensor that is installed into patient rooms and can measure patients’ respirations and pulse with a live video feed (Barrera et al., 2021). Using technology like this can improve patients’ quality of sleep, experiences, and overall outcomes. Additionally, this technology can reduce the chance for human errors, or staff not completing observation rounds properly, which can improve patient safety as well.

Collecting information through observational studies represents a stepping stone into descriptive and analytical studies. These two types of studies provide determinants of specific factors associated with the issues introducing possible hypotheses needed as well as the actual testing of the hypotheses utilizing statistical data. These studies fall under population research and include things such as health, disease and injuries. Case studies and expert opinions can also contribute significantly to this topic. what an interesting and needful area of research. Fall prevention has become a very serious issue in the elderly population. Qualitative research allows observation rather than numbered measurement as you stated, “Qualitative research will allow you to focus on participant observation of one group.” DeNisco and Barker (2019) further state that this type of research is profitable to the nurse because they can see the situation in its context. In order to analyze the how’s and why’s of falls in the elderly population, the nurse needs to be able to observe the risks and causes. Utilizing The Currency Relevance Authority Accuracy Purpose (CRAAP) screening method will assist in the discovery of relevant information which will be helpful in understanding what the latest prevention tools are.

Therefore, healthcare stakeholders spend a significant budget on preventing the aged population from falling and treating the other complications associated with these falls. Some older adults may need a reliable support system to lessen their risks of falling. Nursing research provides reliable information that can be used to prevent and mitigate falls among the aged population (Allobaney et al., 2020). Qualitative research is suitable for handling falls in healthcare facilities. The research design focuses on participant observation of one group. The focus allows nurses to get reliable information for critical decision-making. 

Similarly, different peer-reviewed articles can be integrated into qualitative research to improve the quality of the outcome (Lee et al., 2020). There are different materials that nurses can use in nursing research. Unfortunately, some materials may be less significant and inaccurate. Therefore, nurses should be keen when choosing research designs and sources of information. Meeting the Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose (CRAAP) criteria confirms the credibility of scholarly nursing research.

The idea on the previous topic was on the prevention of hospital acquired infections and the topic is broad because of the presence of infections such as CLABSI, CAUTI and many others. Before identifying suitable evidence, it is important to identify a specific clinical problem so that there is an answerable question. A technique such as the use of the PICOT system will help in the development of a searchable question (McClinton, 2022). Searching for the resources for the study would involve the sues of various databases such as PubMed, these are all provided for by Grand Canyon University in their online library. 

After acquiring various resources that are associated with Hospital Acquired Infections, critical appraisal of the evidence is important to help in determining the strongest evidence. Mata analysis of random controlled trials and clinical based guidelines is the recommendable gold standard in getting the strongest form of evidence. The various sources of evidence many include qualitative and quantitative studies, reviews or clinical expertise or patient preferences and values. Qualitative and quantitative data will provide facts and figures relating to the issue being assessed, the reviews will also help in looking at previous studies relating to the issue and patient preferences will also help in getting the views of the patients concerning the issue (Grove and Gray, 2018). All these factors play an important role in efforts of reducing infections and therefore there will be no preference on the type of research that will be used. What is important is determining the validity and applicability of the evidence that has been obtained. 

Developing the PICOT question is important because it will help in searching and finding the most suitable evidence. Evidence appraisal and integration with patient values and preference is important in evidence-based practice implementation in nursing. Additionally, research needs to be recent the world and society has undergone many changes and data from the previous ages may not be applicable.

The evidence-based project practice involved improving the approach of care delivery in the clinical nurse specialist practice using the holistic nursing theory. Continuous quality improvement process requires critical review and analysis of the nursing scholarly research and developing up-to-date and effective practice interventions. Reviewing quantitative research and peer-reviewed journals is required to further investigate the issue of poor patients’ outcomes in the clinical nursing specialist practice. Such researches provide reliable and credible evidence to support the causative factors to the existence of the issue and based on the report, proper recommendations can be developed to improve the nursing practice.

Various factors are considered in evaluating the appropriateness of a research. First, the research must have employed an appropriate study design and recruited sufficient sample population (Claydon, 2015). For example, the sample population characteristics must represent the true features and experiences of the general population. Enough and appropriate sample population is required to produce credible and reliable research findings. Additionally, the study must have a clear data analysis tool and statistical tests. Randomized control trials are preferred in the clinical research because they present strong evidence to support causality or the existence of a given phenomenon among the populations of interest (Ten Ham-Baloyi & Jordan, 2016).

Selecting an appropriate research is important for evidence-based nursing practice recommendation. The checklists help in ensuring that the conclusion derived from the research is reliable and can be inferred to the general population. Poor choice of the research may lead to misinterpretation of the existing clinical problems; therefore, it may be impossible to fully address the issue because of the lack of sufficient scholarly evidence. Furthermore, the research ought to be based on the targeted population characteristics to be relevant.
