Today the local clinical area understands that families assume a fundamental part in shielding patients. Families assist patients with holding fast to clinical guidance by observing and empowering them to exercise and pay attention to the guidance of medical services experts. This is because the nuclear family, all in all, is an establishment for each individual. An organization between a family and their medical services supplier is family-focused consideration.
Health promotion strategies can be utilized to help a patient’s general prosperity. Through Gordon’s wellbeing design appraisals, the attendant can assess the standards of conduct that the patient may have.” When evaluating families, the medical caretaker thinks about the physical and social climate, individual and family behavior, and organic/hereditary impacts on the family wellbeing as determinants of wellbeing;” (GCU, 2018). Knowing these impacts helps the medical services structure a fitness technique to treat the patient. Systems can be shaped to incorporate the family for actual consideration as well. With family support, the individual can oversee their prosperity.

The concept of family health is important because of the many components and influences a family has on one another in relation to health promotion. Health behaviors can be significantly impacted by one’s environment, significant others, family members, and support system in general, utilizing tools like the genogram can be helpful to encompass many of the components (Green, 2018). Therefore, family health in general can play an influential role in an individual’s life to better their health and prosperity.
As mentioned in the previous discussion, family structure, family function, one family member’s behaviors can all impact the individual. There are various strategies for health promotion, such as, utilizing binocular focusing to offer well balanced assessment of the family dynamic, as well as, incorporating personalized interventions for them to improve and impact many aspects of their life (Leahey & Wright, 2016). In order to understand the best approach to allow an individual to gain more control over and improve their health begins with a proper and adequate assessment, all the while keeping focus on the targeted goals for the individual, particular interventions realistic to their lifestyle, and providing methods they are able to access in order to meet these individualized goals.
Strategies can include incorporating the family dynamic in planning, understanding their background, their behaviors, and enlisting their assistance in creating a plan for each person or individual to implement in a set period of time. Incorporating the individuals involved in this health promotion plan in the decision making process, asking questions, offering clarity can play a significant role in how well the plan is laid out and met. Each individual will require a different approach, some will require small goals that are simple, some will require a greater image of the whole idea, and some may require hands-on assistance. These considerations will offer an individual and their family the greatest chance at success in providing health promotion.

Family health is a state in which the family is a resource for the day-to-day living and health of its member, a family provides its members with key resources for healthful living, including food, clothing, shelter, a sense of self worth, and access to medical care. Health promotions is a concept and a process that extends throughout the life span (Kumar, S., 2012). As nurses , we must educate our patients as well as families. Nurses can provide consistent information in the plan of care and encourage families to utilize community and counseling resources to prevent or minimize stressor. How can nurses better assist families that are going through life stressor and crises.

A family health history is extremely important for health. Knowing family health history can identify people who are at higher risk of having certain diseases and disorders (MedlinePlus, 2021). Some of these diseases include heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and hypertension. These all have in common the risk factor of genetics, environment, and lifestyle choices. Although knowing family history can help identify some of these risk factors, it doesn’t mean it is the end all be all. It does not mean a person will develop these conditions. Knowing this history allows a person to know these risks and to take steps to reduce them in their life through early screening, encouraging regular checkups, and taking action such as stopping smoking. A nurse can determine which strategy would be best to help people gain control and improve their health. Ecomaps and genograms can determine family assessment (GCU, 2018). These tools help us gain as much information as possible about the
context and frame of reference of the families of children. This can also help to see the pattern of caregiving over time.

I agree that using the ecomap and genogram is one of the best ways of gathering patient/family information and determining the patient’s risks. Based on the information gathered, the nurse can then decide which strategy is best for the patient in promoting health and wellness. While knowing family history is very important, many times poor health is due to poor self care, poor support systems, lack of resources due to socioeconomic status, and/or poor psychological well-being (GCU, 2018, chp 2). However, the ultimate determining factors are knowledge and attitude. Two people within the same family may need two different strategies in promoting the patients health. What is your thoughts on two people living within identical living situations, with the exact same health conditions, would they need the same strategies, or would attitude affect which strategy is needed?

As mentioned in the previous discussion, family is one of the biggest factors that influences someone’s overall wellbeing; physically, emotionally, and mentally. According to the article Understanding Families and Health Promotion, “understanding the family’s structure and related health concepts allows the nurse to assess the family’s unique characteristics and identify problem areas” (Green, 2018). Patients’ families are oftentimes included in patient assessments for nurses to better form interventions that promote the quality of patient care. Nurses are constantly promoting the importance of maintaining good health, along with providing patient-specific education for patients and their families.
More importantly, health promotion has a responsibility to focus efforts on including families within strategic partnerships and public health programming, as this can further influence patients’ overall understanding (Barnes et al., 2020). Many strategies can be integrated to encourage patients to improve their health. However, following the nursing process, by first completing a thorough assessment can truly identify the major key points to properly provide the necessary details. Many factors, such as language barriers and backgrounds contribute to the level of patients’ understanding, therefore completing the first step of the nursing process can significantly contribute to maintaining the importance of health promotion.

Title: NRS 439 Topic 2 DQ 2:Why is the concept of family health important? Consider the various strategies for health promotion. How does a nurse determine which strategy would best enable the targeted individuals to gain more control over, and improve, their health?
The concept of family health is important because individuals are influenced by their families and thus, it is important for nurses to incorporate families into the care that they give to their patients (Wright, Leahey, 2013). Family health is important because it allows nurses to better understand an individual’s views about their health by understanding their family’s views on their own health (Grand Canyon University, 2018). The various strategies for health promotion are establishing family-centered care, establishing a family-nurse partnerships, building a relationship, promoting communication, encouraging participatory decision making, and referring specialized services for the family member (Grand Canyon University, 2018).
All of these different strategies and more are able to help the nurse in teaching and promoting health to individuals and families. A nurse determines which strategy would best enable the targeted individuals to gain more control over, and improve, their health by performing a functional health pattern assessment for the individual as well as their family. Other tools that could be used in the assessment of these families and individual family members would be an ecomap and a genogram (Grand Canyon University, 2018). Both of these tools allow the nurse to visualize the factors that are influencing and the individual and how all of those factors are related or not related. These tools are also able to encompass effects from family members as well as other individuals who are surrounding them.

The eco map is shown as a great tool to look at families and their relationships with each other and other factors that impact them. It is a tool for the nurse to learn about the family in order to formulate an individualized plan for the patient to be successful along with positively affecting their family also (Green, 2018).

I agree Kayla, health care providers have to understand the concept of family health, and the importance of how family influences each other. They are not only affecting their individual members and others in the community. Health care providers need to understand the influential factors that change individual perspectives. It is important to careful assess each family system separately. The family unit should be assessed through multiple visits of increments of no more than 15-minutes. The functionality of the family structure should be evaluated and separated into different categories. The data is then analyzed, and interventions are planned and implemented using the data (Green, 2018). How would you assess the effectiveness of the family influence and interventions implemented to alter behavior?

he concept of Family health is important because health and health-protecting behaviors effect the entire family system. The family can receive guidance from the nurse, through various models of care.
The Adaptive Care Model is one strategy for health promotion within families. This refers to a “Model of health associated with an individual’s ability to adapt to a change in health status.” (Falkner, 2018.) This model provides some direction and assists families with setting goals for Caregiving.
Being in a family system means that there will be opportunities for growth and for change. The nurse can leverage these opportunities when explaining how families can adapt to the care of themselves and their loved ones successfully. Keeping a positive outlook while patients attempt to make changes that are difficult or frightening, can be of the utmost importance.
It is very important for the nurse to assess a patient and their family member’s learning styles. The nurse can foster the patient and family’s feelings of confidence and self-control by giving them accurate information, utilizing evidence-based data, and asking the learners to perform return demonstrations of skills. The nurse can foster the patient and family’s feelings of confidence by setting them up for success and celebrating small victories when they do something well. It is important to break things down into manageable parts, and not to overwhelm the patient and family with too much information and confusion. The nurse can definitely assist the patient by giving the education that is needed in the moment, and by reinforcing education with the patient and family member at a later time. The ability to adapt and change will assist the patient in making overall healthcare improvements. (Wright and Leahey, 1994.)

The idea of family health is significant because a person’s health and the actions they take to safeguard their health have an impact on the whole of the family unit. The nurse will provide the family with counseling through the many forms of care that are available. Members of the family collaborated, communicated, and provided care for one another in order to establish and maintain individual and family health routines.
I totally agree with you in that it is indeed very important to assess the patients families learning style when you are providing any kind of teaching or health promotion in the setting. Now since the pandemic seems to be winding down hospitals have relaxed with visitation policies and bedside nurses are getting frequent overnight stays where the family or 1 or 2 of the patients family members usually spent the night in the hospital with their loved one and if you work night-shift like I do I am not used to family members visiting since the last 2 years. So no I have to keep in mind the aspect of learning style of the family and assess and provide proper teaching and health promotion to the family and patients to ensure quality health care.
Health is a state of complete physical , mental and social well being and not merely the absence of diseases and infirmities. Family is an integral part of the society and it affects the behaviors and beliefs of the individual. Family health is a social economic process whereby the health of family members is maintained. It is identified as a dynamic and complex construct consisting of multiple members interactions within and across the boundaries of households nested within social contexts.
The concept of family health is important in healthcare promotion because it helps to identify some genetic traits which can predispose patients to certain diseases. Members of certain populations have same traits which can be transmitted from one generations to another and understanding this helps to elicit the possible diseases,
Family health history can identify people with a higher than usual chances of having common disorders such as heart diseases high blood pressure, stroke, certain cancers and type 2 diabetics.

I definitely agree with your point that health is a state of well-being. Health is a lot more than the absence of illness. “Today, three types of definitions of health seem to be possible and are used. The first is that health is the absence of any disease or impairment. The second is that health is a state that allows the individual to adequately cope with all demands of daily life (implying also the absence of disease and impairment). The third definition states that health is a state of balance, an equilibrium that an individual has established within himself and between himself and his social and physical environment.” (Sartorius, 2006, p.1)

The concept of family health is important because it goes hand in hand with family health promotion and has impact on health of families. As we discussed in topic 1 there are various families from the traditional family, to the nuclear family, to single-parent, etc. Each family members have some effect of each other and in this case we are talking about health promotion and healthy lifestyle. Gordon’s functional health patterns show a relationship between health behaviors within a family. For example with nutrition you can have family knowledge of nutrition and healthy food choices and that will in turn lead to better and more healthier eating habits of individuals within the family and less frequency of eating out or fast food meals (Green, 2018).

Understanding the family history is very important in health care promotion and disease prevention because family members share certain traits and genetic factors which predisposes them to certain disease. Examples are family history of cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes. This will guide the nurse in client education and evaluation.
