NR 447 Week 3 Assignment Conflict Resolution Paper Recent

What would you do as a nurse manager if your policy or procedure conflicts with the most recent evidence? Describe your response to this nurse.

As a nurse manager, if a policy or procedure conflict were brought to my attention, I would thank the nurse for bringing it to my attention and letting them know I will investigate the matter and take appropriate action. The intent is to give positive reinforcement that the issue is critical and encourage the staff member to continue to strive for the best patient practice. Active participation in nursing organizations provides every nurse with a voice as nursing organizations are often represented on committees that develop healthcare policy or provide input (Finkelman, MSN, RN, 2020).

Next, I would investigate the current policy or procedure that my organization has in place. I would then research the most recent evidence about the policy or practice. If the evidence shows that the policy or procedure needs to be changed or updated, I would then take it to the appropriate nurse leader or committee to get the policy or procedure updated to continue to give the best patient practice.

Why is it important to update policies and procedures?

The primary purpose of having hospital policies and procedures is to establish a high degree of understanding, cooperation, efficiency, and unity among your hospital employees (Robinson, 2021). Policies set a general plan of action and the desired results of the organization. They help employees understand their roles and responsibilities within the organization. Specifically, policies should set the foundation for delivering safe and cost-effective quality care (Robinson, 2021). Written policies can prevent chaos, confusion, and legal problems (Robinson, 2021).

What are the risks if they are outdated?

The legislation is a part of health policy and directly impacts healthcare delivery’s legal and ethical issues (Finkelman, MSN, RN, 2020). There are regularly changing provisions within the Affordable Care Act, other federal healthcare requirements, state laws and regulations, CMS Conditions of Participation, Joint Commission Standards, and other accreditation requirements (Robinson, 2021). Nurses are obligated to follow the law and the profession’s code of ethics (Finkelman, MSN, RN, 2020).

The organization and staff’s responsibility is to remain up to date on the ever-changing laws and regulations developed by local, state, and federal governments. Failure to comply with the laws and regulations can result in malpractice or negligent claims and lawsuits.

What is your role as a nurse manager in assuring policies or procedures are up to date?

Risk management and policy enforcement are vital responsibilities of a nurse manager (Meier, 2018). Nurses managers have an ethical and moral obligation to engage in policy and procedural decision-making to ensure best patient practice. To do so, a nurse manager must remain current on laws and regulations developed by local, state, and federal governments. Suppose she sees that a policy or procedure needs to be updated or changed. In that case, it is her responsibility to take the appropriate community’s concern for it to be evaluated and for the necessary changes to be made.

1. Attendance

Discussions (graded): Discussions are a critical learning experience in the online classroom. Participation in all discussions is required.

2. Guidelines and Rubric for Discussions

3. Threaded Discussion Guiding Principles

The ideas and beliefs underpinning the threaded discussions (TDs) guide students through engaging dialogues as they achieve the desired learning outcomes/competencies associated with their course in a manner that empowers them to organize, integrate, apply and critically appraise their knowledge to their selected field of practice.

The use of TDs provides students with opportunities to contribute level-appropriate knowledge and experience to the topic in a safe, caring, and fluid environment that models professional and social interaction.

The TD’s ebb and flow is based upon the composition of student and faculty interaction in the quest for relevant scholarship. Participation in the TDs generates opportunities for students to actively engage in the written ideas of others by carefully reading, researching, reflecting, and responding to the contributions of their peers and course faculty.

TDs foster the development of members into a community of learners as they share ideas and inquiries, consider perspectives that may be different from their own, and integrate knowledge from other disciplines.

4. Participation Guidelines

You are required to post a minimum of three (3) times in each graded discussion. These three (3) posts must be on a minimum of two (2) separate days. You must respond to the initial discussion question by 11:59 p.m. MT on Wednesday.

Discussions for each week close on Sunday at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time (MT). To receive credit for a week’s discussion, students may begin posting no earlier than the Sunday immediately before each week opens.

For courses with Week 8 graded discussions, the threads will close on Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. MT. All discussion requirements must be met by that deadline.
