At the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) evidence base is the essential component. The website is designed to demonstrate how they rank as number 1 for adult and pediatric cardiac surgery and house the number 1 trauma center worldwide. This organization uses quality data to ensure that EBP is incorporated into its everyday goals and objectives. As a result, UMMS utilizes the internal evidence displayed by quality improvement departments.
According to Melnyk & Overholt (2019), organizations can use their QI projects and outcomes to support their evidence projects and initiatives. The author Crabtree, et al (2016) implies that the Medical University of South Carolina transformed the organization with quality improvement projects and outcomes to incorporate evidence based practice. Both authors demonstrate how EBP is utilized to maintain an organizational clinical practice.
Healthcare Work Grounded
UMMS work is grounded in the quality of metrics. The organization is involved in many governing programs such as the Magnet program which ensures that registered nurse is competent and has the educational background to support the requirements of the program (UMMS, n.d.). Hence, U.S. News & World Report national ratings rank UMMS as the 50th best healthcare organization in the country, which is displayed on the website. This implies the healthcare organization cares about the treatment they provide to the community (UMMS, n.d.). However, they are the only hospital in Maryland with the BabyFriendly certification, which is influenced by the World Health Organization. Both Magnet and BabyFriendly certifications imply the organization is changing the culture to implement EBP. And their Healthcare providers are required to perform at a high standard to maintain the certification.

The information on the website ensured me this organization is trying to stay current in their clinical practice. I learned with each of these certifications there are competencies to imply the culture is changing. Ranking the 50th and first according to U.S. News& World Report, they are not performing at the level required to be the number 1 (UMMS, n.d.). I was unaware UMMS is the number one in cardiac surgeries among pediatrics which demonstrates a hardworking neonatal and pediatric team (UMMS, n.d.). However, many of the hospitals in Maryland are very competitive and EBP separates them from each other. I am also, impressed this organization is demonstrating the work to maintain the certifications because they are not easy to maintain.
