Ethnography and phenomenology are two such strategies that can assist researchers. Ethnography research is a qualitative method in which researchers observe and/or interact with study participants in their natural environment, such as the culture in which they live. The goal of this type of research is to learn how users interact with things in their natural environment. Researchers immerse themselves in the culture being observed in order to gain a better understanding of the study’s participants’ behaviors. Direct observation, diary studies, video recording, photography, and artifact analysis, such as devices used throughout the day, are all ethnographic methods. Observations can be made from the user’s workplace, home, or while out with family and friends. The length of the studies varies depending on the type of research being conducted. They can range from a few hours of observation to several months of research.
Phenomenology offers a method for researchers to better understand a person’s lived experiences (Green & Johnson, 2018). Phenomenology is a research approach that seeks to describe the essence of a phenomenon by exploring it from the perspective of those who have experienced it. Qualitative research digs deep and is focused on emotions, feelings, and how the subject understands the health issue and how it affects their day-to-day life. One thing I love about being a nurse is getting to know people and their stories. So, qualitative research really appeals to me. The researcher spends a great amount of time with the subjects and gathers a large amount of data to apply to their understanding of the research. Qualitative research is flexible, holistic, and requires researchers to become intensely involved (Green & Johnson, 2018). So, it is essential that the researcher use methods to help maintain boundaries and keep them on track to collect the best data possible for their research project.

Being a good nurse entails more than just focusing on the patient’s physical health. This study is looking for information about the patient as a whole. This type of research must be planned. Hello Amadu, hope you are having a nice day, I agree with you regarding the conclusion statement you provided in your post, social determinants of health can impact individuals’ well-being, and that’s why is important for nurses to understand and incorporate better practices to prevent the spread of diseases. As nurses’ health promotion is key for nurses to provide to the community and patients, is a human right a patient has. Accordingly, to WHO the right to health can be described as, “access to timely, acceptable, and affordable health care of appropriate quality as well as to providing for the underlying determinants of health, such as safe and potable water, sanitation, food, housing, health-related information, and education, and gender equality” (WHO, 2017b, para. 1). These rights should be respected and allowed especially by those who are providing care to the patients, all professional healthcare. Thanks for sharing!
