Re: Topic 2 DQ 2: According to your worldview, what value does a human person have?
As discussed in our prior question, the phrase imago Dei means “image of God”. If God chose us to be the only living thing on earth that is made in His image, the value of human life is beyond measurement. “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well” (Psalm 139:14, ESV). The Bible also tells us we have been made in His image not to be perfect ourselves but through the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross, we are made perfect. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” II Corinthians 5:17, ESV). With my worldview and the belief that the Bible is all true, it is hard for me to believe in the “rights” of having an abortion. I believe that God knew each of us, born and unborn, before the world was made. I also don’t believe that trying to genetically change or produce a “perfect baby” according to our desires is ok. I believe that God made us the way He wanted us to be and messing with that formula is trying to play God in some respects. Stem cell research is again morally wrong in my opinion when it destroys human embryos to do so. Since I believe that life does begin at conception and we are valuable to God, all life should be preserved.

According to my worldview the value of a human person is on a level of its own as humans are made in God’s image. My position on the does not affect what I believe. Each individual is entitled to their own beliefs on any subject. Everyone sins and no one sin is any greater than any other. Just because my beliefs do not justify these bioethical issues does not mean that someone else shouldn’t be able to make their own choices about these issues. I also believe that God can forgive us for anything. He did after all forgive some of the very people who helped to kill His son.

I will still care for my patients no matter what they choose to believe is right for themselves. The choices that they make are usually what they can live with in themselves. According to your worldview, what value does a human person have?
