NURS 6003 Assignment: Strategies for Addressing Questions

NURS 6003 Assignment: Strategies for Addressing Questions

As I start my journey in the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program at Walden University and having identified networks, teams, and individuals that will impact my success during my studies, I still have concerns and questions about different issues. While I feel fortunate that after such a long time I am focused on attaining advanced nursing education at this institution, my concerns and questions will require sharing with my network as individuals in these settings have experience and can help me address these issues.

Questions and Concerns

The first question and concern is about finding a perfect balance between work, school, and my life in the family since I am pursuing an online course that requires more time and resources. My concern is how I will attain academic success while also attending to different needs and requirements at work and home. The second question is about finding the right sites and resources to prepare well for exams and pass them. I am concerned that managing classes in the entire program and interacting with tutors requires more time than I had anticipated (Kamal et al., 2017). The implication is that while I wish to pursue my MSN program and become a better nurse, I should find ways to address these concerns and questions by sharing through discussions and with my faculty.

I believe that the resources that I mentioned in the academic and professional success plan will be instrumental in generating answers and perspectives on these questions and concerns. Along with the resources, time management is an essential skill that can make the difference and allow me to attain my academic vision in the program (Laureate Education, 2018: Sainz, Ferrero, & Ugidos,, 2019). For instance, an educational system is a critical tool that allows students to organize and prioritize activities. again, I believe that through peer teaching, one can gain academic achievement and enhance their critical thinking skills.

Thank you for your post as you share your concerns and questions about starting the MSN program at Walden University. I agree with you because the concerns and questions you raise are pertinent as one begins the MSN program like creating a perfect balance between family, work and studying. Getting enough time to study and attain a balance is a huge challenge for many of us in the program. As you posit, it is essential for one to plan ahead so that you are not overwhelmed or stressed (Sainz et al., 2019). Therefore, time management and persistence will be very critical in addressing the work-life balance. Again, living in rural setting presents challenges on getting approved practicum sites and preceptors, especially at this pandemic time. As you posit, having resources and strategies is critical in succeeding in this program at the university (Akter, Hossen, & Islam, 2019). Accessibility to these resources will be critical for you to achieve the goals of the program and your vision.

Thank you for your insightful post and I want to agree that indeed online graduate school programs come with mixed challenges and personal concerns that students must find strategies and resources to address. Again, online programs are exciting but require one to have a balance between the different roles, getting clinical sites and even studying for exams. It is true that all students are dealing with these concerns and issues and it is only practical for each to seek effective solutions (Wingo, Ivankova, & Moss, 2017). The question about balancing the roles and studying is a concern for all students as well as clinical sites that will enable you succeed, particularly at this pandemic moment (Stigmar, 2016). However, I believe that with a good network and professional as well as academic resources and strategies, you can overcome all these hurdles and succeed. Sharing these concerns is essential in getting experienced opinions and perspectives from professionals and other people that have been here and did online graduate classes or programs.

In Module 1, you began building a foundation for your success by considering a network-individuals and teams who can help you to clarify and execute on the vision. according to NURS 6003 Assignment: Strategies for Addressing Questions, a network is most helpful when you are comfortable asking questions. Chances are other members of your network have experienced similar questions and may have helped guide others toward resolutions that can now be helpful.

In this Discussion, focus on the questions you are ready to ask as your journey begins. Keep in mind that sharing questions is often a great way to help others who have similar questions even if they do not realize it!

To prepare:

  • Reflect on questions or concerns you might have as you begin the MSN program.
  • Consider the individuals, teams, and departments you previously considered in Module 1 as well as how they may provide support with addressing these questions and concerns.

By Day 3 of Week 2

Post any questions or concerns that you are willing to share with the group. The Discussion board represents an opportunity to network with your course colleagues, and others may have the same questions or concerns.

By Day 6 of Week 2

Respond to at least two of your colleagues’ posts by offering a possible resolution to their questions/concerns with supporting documentation, if possible, or expanding on their thinking and providing an example as support.

Many of our colleagues also share the same concern when it comes to writing. I myself have this concern because I have been out school for many years. By utilizing all the resources Walden University offers such as the writing center, library, and APA templates, we can improve our writing. According to the writing center “Through our paper review service, we aim to help students become better writers.  NURS 6003 Assignment: Strategies for Addressing Questions states that rather than editing or ‘fixing’ your paper, our goal is to help you develop your writing skills” (n.d). The writing center will also assist us in becoming scholarly writers by giving us instruction and feedback in a positive way. Therefore, you shouldn’t think your writing style is less or unprofessional. We all have a different way of expressing ourselves through our work. Discussion: Strategies for Addressing Questions

In reference to the American Nurses Association web page, yes it does provide an abundance amount of information such as continuing education, journals, and even a career center. It has been a while since I have accessed the website. It’s incredible that we nurses fail to use the resources available to us. As I breezed through the website, I found a section called Capitol Beat. Very interesting article about ANA involvement in the election as well as advocating for nurses to get involved: “Now is the time, more than ever, that nurses need to engage, have a seat at the table and make their voices heard, regardless of where they are from or who they support” (Davis, 2020).

Main Question Post

I feel that a majority of my questions going into this class have been looked at during the first week of this course.  I questioned if I would be able to attend school, work and continue to be a present mother, grandmother and wife.  It seems like a lot to fit into one day.  It was good to read, first week, that others had the same doubts and questions in our Facebook group.  It made me very happy that I joined the group.  The reading has also stated that being part of a social group with your peers is helpful in staying focused and using them as a resource. (Walden University, n.d.)

The American Nurses Association, ANA, has also produced a lot of links for me that will be useful throughout my career and through school that I was not aware existed.  Am I the only one applying for every scholarship I can find to help pay for my schooling?  It was great to find the scholarship area on ANA page in this weeks’ reading. (American Nurses Association, n.d.)

I continue to be worried about my writing.  I write like I talk which isn’t always in a scholarly fashion.  I will use the many resources Walden provides in it’s writing center.  The ability to send in your papers to be proof read is a benefit for me.  Knowing they will give you feedback prior to submitting our papers is very helpful. (Walden University, n.d.)  I also found it beneficial to read the difference between active and passive voice when writing. (Walden University, n.d.)  I am used to charting as a nurse when we never use the word “I”, only “this nurse”.  Does anyone else find it hard to write any other way after so many years of charting?  I am sure there will be many revisions of my papers to keep this type of writing out of my assignments.  It will be in my head each time I write, “this is an assignment, not a chart”.  We will see if that helps. Discussion: Strategies for Addressing Questions

Other questions that I have would be the following:

What is the difference in curriculum between the MSN, FNP and DNP courses as in the NURS 6003 Assignment: Strategies for Addressing Questions?  Did I make the right choice going for my FNP and not DNP?   How will I get clinical hours done and still work, be at home and have a class at the same time?  Can I do this and get the grades I want realistically?  How do I start a practice when I’m done?

Hopefully I’m not the only one with a lot of these questions.

The decision to pursue a master’s degree in nursing is one of the greatest strides in my professional life. It promises to enhance my knowledge and skills related to the provision of quality, safe, and efficient care to the populations I will serve. It will also broaden my understanding of the various ways in which nursing research can be used to inform the provision of quality nursing care. The decision also brings with it significant concerns on issues that might affect my success in the program. Therefore, this essay examines the strategies that I will use to address the questions I have concerning the program.

As shown above, the decision to pursue a master’s degree in nursing is associated with significant questions that need to be answered. The questions arise from the unknown experiences that will be encountered in the program. They include minimum program requirements, success factors, the maximum number of units as well as study hours, clinical experience requirements, and sources of learning information.  A study conducted by Havenga and Sengane (2018), most of the postgraduate students fail to complete their studies due to a combination of factors that included student, academic and institutional-related challenges. The institutional and academic challenges included workload, contact sessions, and subject assessment and information. Therefore, the authors concluded the need for student preparedness as well as the provision of adequate support from the institution for their success.

I will embrace a number of strategies to ensure that the questions that I have concerning the program and my expectations are addressed. One of them is seeking the support that I need from the national nurses association. The national nurses association has information concerning the expected competencies for APRNs. I will utilize the information to address some of the concerns that I will have concerning the program. The other way in which I will address my questions is by asking students who are members of the national nurses association. I will seek their insights concerning the concerns I will have towards the program. I believe that their experiences with the institution and program will be vital in addressing my concerns.

The other strategy that I will utilize to address my questions is obtaining assistance from academic advisors. According to Al-Khafaji (2017), academic advisors are essential in ensuring successful transition for students in any institutions. They assist students in achieving their career goals smoothly within a given period. They also hold face-to-face interaction with the students to obtain a better understanding of their needs and the ways in which they can be met for them to achieve the set curriculum objectives. The critical role of academic advisors can also be seen in the assistance that they provide the students to register, add course selection, and development of study plans that will ensure their success. Therefore, I will utilize the academic advisors to address the questions that I have concerning the program.

I will also utilize the support from graduate nursing students at Walden University. The students have extensive experience with the program requirements at the university. They also have experience with the faculty members and the ways in which their support can be utilized for my academic and professional success. Their information will therefore assist me in making informed decisions on the ways in which I will achieve my academic goals. According to a research conducted by Ndlela and Brysiewicz (2018), student-student support in the form of peer mentoring and feedback had a positive impact on the perception of the nursing students towards their program.

I will also utilize the faculty members of the nursing school in Walden University to address my questions. This will include seeking the information that I need from my lecturers, supervisors, clinical instructors, and the chairperson of academic affairs. These personnel have experience with a wide range of issues that will affect my professional success. According to Sparacino (2016), a majority of new graduate nurses experiences a significant level of anxiety as well as stress as they adjust to their learning environments. A failure to adapt to these changes often affects their academic success. It is therefore important that adequate support be provided to them for their successful adaptation. This support exists in different forms that include providing them with formal orientation, assigning them resource person, and establishment of mentorship programs to support their growth (Flanigan, 2016). The faculty should also respect new graduate students, show empathy, and create learning environments that promote compassionate learning. As shown by Henderson, Sewell and Wei (2019) in their research, institutional support is important for graduate nursing students since it influences their intent to graduate. It also builds their confidence and competence, hence, their professional and academic success.

In summary, I will utilize a wide range of strategies to answer the questions that I have concerning the master’s program in nursing. I will utilize the support from external agents such as the national nurses association and students enrolled to the organization to address my concerns. I will also utilize the support from graduate students in Walden University and academic advisors. The most important resource that I will utilize to address my concerns is the graduate nursing school faculty. Through these interventions, I will be able to achieve my personal and professional goals as I pursue the program.
