I learned numerous lessons in week three. First, the week assisted me in appreciating the importance of education in advancing nursing practice. An RN nurse can serve the patients effectively at their level. However, through advanced learning, RN nurses gain effective knowledge that assists them in serving the nursing fraternity in higher positions such as leadership (Hughes et al., 2020). In doing so, nurses with advanced nursing skills can develop important policies that not only aid in solving the healthcare system’s problems but also increase their significance in managing healthcare quality.
Among the lesson learned this week, the ability to provide person-centered care was among the key important points learned. The entire process of restructuring the quality of the healthcare system starts with the ability of the nurses to offer holistic and patient-centered care (Smith & Foronda, 2021). This type of service allows nurses to value the patients’ health and work hard to meet the patient outcome. I feel that if all nurses can gain the skills to offer holistic care, the healthcare quality could be high within the healthcare system. Therefore, there is a need for nurses in leadership positions to develop programs for junior nurses that allow them to understand the concept of person-centered care.
In my future role as an NP, I would practice the concept of cultural competence in nursing. This process would involve offering culturally competent care to patients to meet the desired patient outcome (Smith & Foronda, 2021). This measure would also help me anticipate the concept of cultural humility that will aid in heightening the quality of healthcare services. This concept would also play an important role in designing my future path in nursing, especially in becoming one of the unique nurses that aid in bringing change within the healthcare system.

As the increasing and rising number of patient’s illnesses, comorbidities, epidemics, and pandemics in healthcare continue to rise and fluctuate continuously it has caused a vast shortage in healthcare across the board, which nurses tend to mostly hit the downfall of it due to the amount of time that nurses spend with patient-care. Nurses are always the center of patient-care from case management oversight, to implementing and providing direct or indirect care. The changes of the 21st healthcare has caused a decrease in patient-centered holistic care as nurses have less to little time in spending with the patients in conversation, some nurses due to this have been less attentive in their assessments with patients including not effectively listening or having empathy to the patient’s circumstances and life situations that affect their overall health status or their current health situation.
As I think about my future practice as a mental health nurse practitioner there were several concepts that were covered this week, which resonated with me and will always be a part of my practice such as caring, holistic nursing patient-centered care and biases. These concepts will always be important as they are the heartful dynamic, mole and essence of nursing. I would never be able to have a successful patient-centered nursing care, compassionate relationship, and collaborative healthcare without providing one without the other. As these concepts will always extend to providing an excellent patient healthcare outcome, overall patient well-being and a healthy culture with a nurse practitioner to patient relationship.
Thus, to me, having the influence of cultural humility with respect, openness and flexibility to others cultures and their belief’s will always set a foundation in my nursing practice as it will lead me into having a compassionate, individualized, trusting and unbiased patient-centered care, which is a very important framework and key in healthcare, more so especially with a mental health patient where trust is the underlying foundation to optimal care and success of the mental health patient.
