Overview

This module focuses on neurology, autonomic, and psychiatric alterations and their treatments. In recent years, we have seen many new antipsychotic drugs on the market. While these newer drugs tend to have fewer side effects than their predecessors, there are still important considerations for all patients on these medications. Additionally, we will be discussing the pharmacological treatment of pain and the positive and negative consequences of these treatments, both from the standpoint of acute and chronic pain management. Finally, we will touch on some common local and general anesthetics and their roles.

Causes and consequences of noncompliance with lithium and possible solutions to noncompliant behaviors

Mehta, Kanthala, and Schinlever (2016) opine that noncompliance is a challenging medical issue due to the fact that the issue may have vast impacts on the health condition of the patient. Along these lines, it could be prudent that patients and the guidance are allowed to have an understanding of the impacts of non-compliance. The causes of noncompliance with lithium include the lack of information on the importance of adherence to taking the medication. In addition, the ignorance of the patients and the healthcare providers will well result in the rise in the chances of the noncompliance to the use of the medication.

The consequences of the noncompliance include the fact that the patient may end up having a challenge in their immune system and hence the use of the medication may end up helping the patient anymore. To help in the elimination of cases of noncompliance, it will be prudent that the health care providers are informed of the importance of educating the patients and the guardian on the importance of compliance to the use of the medication to avoid the vast impacts that it could have on the patient.
