Professor Pearce and class.
Register Ready is a program in New Jersey (NJ) that allows NJ residents with disabilities to preregister so that emergency responders can better plan to serve them in the event of a disaster or an emergency. The registry is free, voluntary and confidential and the State pays for the service. This program is primarily for those who would have trouble evacuating due to physical or cognitive disability, language barrier or the lack of transportation. Registration may be done online at www.registerready.nj.govLinks to an external site. or by dialing 211 twenty fours a day and seven days a week. This advertisement enables residents with special needs to plan ahead for assistance in the event of a disaster.
The home health is a setting that is significantly impacted by the register ready program, especially since it is primarily concerned with persons who most certainly may need assistance during a disaster. Physically disabled persons obviously need assistance during such time, and “nurses, as team members can cooperate with health and social representatives, government bodies, community groups, and volunteer agencies in disaster planning and preparedness programs (e. g. drills)” (Nies, M. A., & McEwen, M., p. 590, 2019,).

A major stakeholder in an event of a disaster may be a local healthcare facility or a hospital’s emergency department, especially in the event of a biological or chemical terrorist attack since they may be the first to easily suspect same as there may be an uptake in the number of patients presenting with symptoms. Also, in the event of a natural disaster, as was the case with hurricane sandy in 2012 when there were massive power outages, some hospitals preemptively cut back on nonessential services to plan for a patient surge (Jeffrey Young, 2012).

Think about disasters your community has or could potentially face. Now, think about how your community is helping its members prepare.
Explore your community and find an advertisement that represents helping community members be prepared for a disaster.
Examples could be a billboard, poster at a bus stop, marquee sign, flyer, yard sign and more. Example: Sign advertising ‘free’ flu vaccinations at a local pharmacy.
