I can relate to the subject of iron.  I have Iron Deficiency Anemia, and I suffer from many signs and symptoms you mentioned in your post.  I am supposed to be taking iron supplements, but do not like the side effects and do not like the medication(s) to combat the side effects.  I am what you call a non-compliant patient (laughing).  It is time for a change though.  You are right, iron is very important in/for our bodies.  I can remember in our anatomy and physiology class, speaking and learning about how iron is apart of the structure/ model of hemoglobin.  Iron is in the center of each heme of the hemoglobin molecule.  It is the iron that binds with oxygen.  I guess this is why hemoglobin is known as an oxygen-carrying protein.  It would also explain the shortness-of-breath you get, as one of the side effects of low iron, you mentioned.  Nice post!

What is Iron and why is it important for the body? Iron is a mineral found in the blood (RBC) of the body that contributes to numerous bodily functions. The benefits of iron is that it increases energy, reduces fatigue, improves muscle strength, boost hemoglobin, improves concentration, reduces bruising and restores sleep. A lack of iron in the body is known as iron deficiency (Anemia). Anemia can contribute to numerous problems throughout the body. It can cause tiredness, paleness, shortness of breath, headaches, irregular heartbeats, dry skin, swelling and soreness of the tongue and mouth, restless legs, brittle nails, strange cravings and feeling anxious. If the body consumes too much iron, it can lead to organ failure. Iron is an important nutrient needed for the body. It can be found in foods such as clams, dark chocolate, soy beans, lentils, spinach, oysters and white beans. It can also be supplemented in a pill form. Iron can be beneficial or harmful to the body but it is a necessary element that is needed for proper function throughout the body.

Calcium is an alkaline earth metal with an atomic weight of 40.08 and an atomic number of 20. It is solid in its elemental state and has many isotopes. The element calcium is vital in every aspect of the human body however in the body it is not a single element but a compound of sorts. With the aid of vitamin D calcium is absorbed and stored mainly in the bones and teeth. The different bone tissue within the bone is like a store house for the calcium and when the body’s Ca levels are low the bone releases the calcium which goes to help different processes throughout the body. For example, Calcium helps transmit messages within the nerves through the synapsis found at the nerves ending, it helps with the release of hormones and is important in muscle contraction. Calcium mixed with other elements are also found in toothpaste and antacids. The lack of calcium has been associated with health issues such as brittle bones and teeth.
